French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said President Macron is expected to appoint a new prime minister within 48 hours. Speaking on France 2, Lecornu noted the current political situation makes this possible and said Macron will conduct final consultations.
Amid opposition calls for early elections, Lecornu said now is “not the time to change the president” and that Macron will speak to the nation soon. He also discussed key issues, including resuming pension reform—warning delays could cost €3 billion by 2027—and said the 2026 draft budget may be presented to the cabinet next Monday.
Lecornu resigned on Monday, just weeks after his appointment.
