Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed a temporary ceasefire proposal during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) emergency meeting on Lebanon. Mikati called for Israel to commit to international resolutions and restore regional security, stressing the need for an immediate halt to Israeli aggression in Gaza. He reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to UN Resolution 1701 and called for Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories. The ceasefire proposal, introduced by France, suggested a 21-day truce, but Israel denied agreeing to any ceasefire. Recent Israeli airstrikes have resulted in over 550 deaths and displaced 150,000 residents in Lebanon, raising fears of broader regional conflict.
