Both the Lao and Cambodian militaries have denied recent media reports of an exchange of fire and arrests at their shared border.
On Saturday, the Lao military clarified there was no clash between Lao and Cambodian troops, and no Cambodian personnel were detained for illegally crossing the border. The Lao military confirmed to China Media Group that earlier reports of a confrontation were false, and the Lao People’s Army News stated it had not received any notifications about such an incident.
Maly Socheata, spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, also confirmed on Saturday that no such incident occurred.
These denials come after a Thai news outlet, Thairath, had reported that the Lao military issued an emergency notice claiming intense clashes with armed Cambodian individuals who had illegally crossed into Lao territory, resulting in 10 arrests and the seizure of weapons. Both countries’ militaries have now debunked these claims.
