China and the United States held candid and constructive talks on economic and trade issues, including TikTok, according to Chinese officials. Both sides agreed that a stable economic relationship is vital for bilateral ties and global stability.
China reiterated its opposition to politicizing or weaponizing technology, saying it will safeguard national interests while respecting market principles. The two sides reached a basic framework consensus on addressing TikTok-related concerns through cooperation, such as entrusted operation of U.S. user data and licensing arrangements for its algorithm.
Chinese officials stressed that final agreements will require domestic approval, while also criticizing Washington’s ongoing expansion of sanctions against Chinese entities, calling it unilateral bullying. Beijing urged the U.S. to lift restrictions and work toward healthier, more stable economic relations.
