Japan Airlines hit by hacks, delaying flights during year-end season

Japan Airlines (JAL) experienced a cyberattack on Thursday, causing delays to 24 domestic flights during the busy year-end travel season. The attack, aimed at overwhelming JAL’s network with massive data transmissions, disrupted internal and external systems but did not involve viruses or compromise customer data. Ticket sales were temporarily suspended but resumed within hours.

The incident highlighted concerns about Japan’s cybersecurity vulnerabilities, with experts calling for stronger defenses. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi urged JAL to restore systems quickly and assist passengers. Other airlines in Japan were unaffected.
