Jane Goodall, the renowned British primatologist whose pioneering research on chimpanzees transformed science and public understanding of the natural world, has died at the age of 91.
The Jane Goodall Institute said she passed away of natural causes in California while on a U.S. speaking tour. Goodall became world-famous in the 1960s for her groundbreaking fieldwork in Africa, where she documented chimpanzee behaviors once thought to be uniquely human, such as tool use and complex social interactions.
Her discoveries reshaped how humans view their closest relatives and inspired global efforts in conservation. Beyond her scientific contributions, she spent decades as a passionate advocate for protecting wildlife and the environment.
