Israel’s West Bank annexation bid condemned as Fatah, Hamas delegations meet in Cairo

Israel has frozen two annexation bills for the West Bank, including one for Maale Adumim, after they passed an initial vote in the Knesset. The move came during U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s visit, prompting condemnation from the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Indonesia, and other Muslim-majority nations. Vance called the vote a “stupid political stunt.” Netanyahu’s office said the vote was a political provocation by the opposition.

EU leaders in Brussels urged Israel to stop settlement expansion and military actions, while welcoming progress in the Gaza ceasefire.

In Cairo, Hamas and Fatah delegations are holding talks on post-war plans for Gaza. Egypt is also preparing a conference in November for Gaza’s reconstruction. A UN team in Gaza City reported severe public health issues: lack of clean water, skin diseases, and broken sanitation. Displaced families urgently need water, food, hygiene supplies, repair materials, and financial aid.

WHO evacuated 41 critical patients and 145 companions from Gaza — the first evacuation since the October 10 ceasefire — but about 15,000 people are still waiting for approval for medical treatment outside Gaza.
