Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon killed at least 18 people and wounded several others on Wednesday, according to Lebanese authorities, with the deadliest strike hitting the town of Tayr Debba in Tyre District.
The Israeli military said it targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and militants across southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours, while also reporting that it intercepted a drone launched toward its forces. Hezbollah, in turn, said it struck Israeli troop gatherings in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called for continued diplomacy to restore sovereignty and end the violence, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Lebanese citizens to turn against Hezbollah. The latest violence comes despite a ceasefire agreement, with Lebanese health authorities reporting thousands killed and injured since March amid ongoing cross-border clashes.
