Israel warns Qatar over Hamas, sparks diplomatic backlash

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Qatar on Wednesday to expel or prosecute Hamas officials after Israel launched an unprecedented strike in Doha. He accused Qatar of sheltering and financing Hamas, prompting Doha to denounce his remarks as “reckless” and a violation of sovereignty. Qatar stressed its hosting of Hamas was part of mediation efforts requested by the U.S. and Israel, and warned the attack could derail peace talks.

The strike drew regional condemnation and displays of solidarity with Qatar, including visits by UAE and Saudi leaders. The European Commission also signaled it would propose sanctions on extremist Israeli ministers.

Meanwhile, Israel escalated its “Gideon’s Chariots 2” offensive in Gaza City, flattening residential areas and displacing hundreds of thousands. The WHO said it would keep staff in the city, warning that losing its remaining hospitals would be catastrophic.
