Israeli warplanes carried out at least 12 airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah Port on Tuesday, according to Houthi-run media, with no immediate reports of casualties. The Israeli military confirmed the attacks, saying they targeted Houthi-controlled infrastructure as part of Operation “Watcher from Above” to maintain its blockade. Defense Minister Israel Katz warned the Houthis would face “painful prices” for attempts to strike Israel.
Before the assault, Israel issued an evacuation warning for the port. Houthi forces claimed their air defenses disrupted some aircraft, though details were unclear.
The strikes came just hours after Israel expanded a ground incursion into Gaza City, amid growing international criticism, including a UN report accusing Israel of genocide. The Houthis, who control northern Yemen, have stepped up attacks on Israel since late 2023 in support of Palestinians, while Israel has repeatedly retaliated with strikes on Houthi-held areas.
