Iraqi leaders, including President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’s al-Sudani, held discussions with Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler regarding the security situation in border areas where Turkey has conducted operations against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in Iraq. The Iraqi leaders emphasized the need for resolving border and security issues through cooperation, consultation, and coordination, rejecting unilateral measures. They called for respecting Iraqi sovereignty and halting Turkish military violations, particularly in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan. Guler expressed Turkey’s desire for cooperative relations and emphasized security coordination, focusing on intelligence-sharing and counter-terrorism efforts. Turkey frequently conducts operations in northern Iraq against the PKK, designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union.
