Iranian, US presidents sign peace MoU digitally

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump have digitally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
Speaking to Iran’s state-run television early Thursday, Baghaei said the agreement had originally been scheduled to be signed in person in Switzerland on Friday. However, after further discussions, both sides decided that a virtual signing by the two presidents would be a better option.
Baghaei said digital signatures from the highest-ranking officials of both countries would increase the political cost of violating the agreement. He also said that holding a public ceremony was “not very appropriate” under the current circumstances.
He confirmed that the second phase of negotiations between Iran and the United States is still expected to begin in Switzerland on Friday, though he noted that the final outcome will depend on discussions through mediators in the coming hours.
Baghaei added that, for Iran, achieving a ceasefire in Lebanon remains just as important as maintaining the truce with the United States.
