Iran has summoned British Ambassador Hugo Shorter to protest the British government’s claim that Iran was likely involved in a suspected plot targeting Royal Air Force Fairford. The Iranian Foreign Ministry rejected the allegation as baseless and called on Britain to provide evidence, warning that Tehran could reconsider its relations with London if the accusations were not supported.
The move followed remarks by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham about an incident near the air base last month. On September 27, British police detained five people in their 20s on suspicion of explosives and terrorism offenses after reports of three vans heading toward the base. The suspects were released on police bail the following day. Police reportedly found gasoline in the vans but no explosives.
