Iran’s judiciary said it has identified key organizers behind recent unrest in the country and has begun legal proceedings against those involved. Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said the violence had escalated into what he described as “terrorist acts,” allegedly encouraged by Western leaders, and that authorities are distinguishing between misled participants, organized operatives and terrorist elements. He added that individuals allegedly linked to foreign intelligence agencies, including Israel’s Mossad, have been identified, with cases progressing under Iranian law.
Jahangir also said Iran is preparing evidence on alleged crimes by the United States and Israel during the June 2025 Iran-Israel conflict for submission to international courts. Protests that began on December 28 later turned violent, prompting Iranian officials to accuse Washington and Tel Aviv of instigating the unrest. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed these claims, while U.S. President Donald Trump has called for new leadership in Iran and previously threatened military action. Tehran warned that any attack on its leadership would be considered an act of war, as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to intensify.
