Iran conveys phased plan via Pakistan to end war as Hormuz tensions mount

Abbas Araghchi has outlined a three-stage proposal to the United States, via Pakistan, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and reducing tensions.

The plan begins with a full ceasefire and guarantees against further attacks on Iran and Lebanon. A second phase would address security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, followed by a third stage focusing on Iran’s nuclear program—though Tehran insists nuclear talks will only happen after progress on the earlier steps.

Araghchi also delivered messages outlining Iran’s “red lines,” particularly regarding its nuclear activities and control over the strait.

However, major disagreements remain. Donald Trump dismissed further talks as unnecessary unless Iran engages directly, while Masoud Pezeshkian criticized ongoing US pressure as undermining trust.

Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continue to disrupt global shipping and drive up oil prices, raising concerns about wider economic impacts.
