Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto declared victory in the first round of the country’s presidential election as preliminary results indicated his lead. Quick counts from at least six leading pollsters showed Subianto securing around 58 percent of votes from 90 percent of votes counted. His rivals, Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo, obtained approximately 25 percent and 16.5 percent, respectively. While expressing gratitude for the positive quick counts, Subianto emphasized the need to wait for the official results from the election commission.
