China’s inbound tourism market saw strong growth during the 2026 National Day holiday, with about 2.15 million passenger trips expected at border crossings each day. More foreign visitors are moving beyond traditional sightseeing and choosing experiences involving local culture and daily life. Bookings for one-day tours more than quadrupled, while scenic spot ticket bookings rose by over 220%.
Traditional hanfu photo shoots in Shanghai, cultural performances in Zhangjiajie and technology shopping in Shenzhen have become popular with overseas visitors. The growth has also been supported by China’s expanding visa-free policies, with foreign border crossings during the Mid-Autumn Festival rising 37.7 percent year on year.
