The 2025 International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS) announced the recipients of its prestigious Basic Science Lifetime Award (BSLA) at a press conference at Tsinghua University. Six globally renowned scientists were honored for their groundbreaking contributions in mathematics, physics, and information science and engineering.
The awardees include Nobel laureates Samuel Chao Chung Ting, David Jonathan Gross, and Steven Chu; Turing Award winner Robert Endre Tarjan; Fields Medalist Shigefumi Mori; and Wolf Prize winner George Lusztig. Their pioneering work spans algebraic geometry, particle physics, atomic physics, and computer science.
Established in 2023, the BSLA recognizes scientists whose research has fundamentally transformed their fields over the past three decades. The 2025 ICBS, scheduled for July, will continue fostering international collaboration in basic science, following the success of the 2024 event, which drew nearly 1,000 top scientists and over 5 million participants.
