Scotland’s First Minister, Humza Yousaf, announced his resignation following pressure stemming from the termination of a power-sharing agreement with the Scottish Green Party. Yousaf, who leads the Scottish National Party (SNP), faced two no-confidence votes from opposition parties in the Scottish Parliament, one targeting him personally and the other directed at the SNP government. In his resignation statement, Yousaf emphasized the need for someone else to lead in repairing political relationships across party lines. He called for a swift leadership contest to select his successor, remaining in office until then. According to Scottish law, a replacement for the first minister must be approved by members of the Scottish Parliament within 28 days.
