Humanitarian situation remains dire in Gaza despite aid surge: UN

UN humanitarian officials said on Tuesday that conditions in Gaza remain severe despite ongoing aid deliveries and efforts to expand assistance. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said daily bread distribution now reaches at least 43 percent of Gaza’s population, alongside monthly wheat flour assistance that has so far reached 1.2 million people this month. Humanitarian partners have also provided shelter materials to more than 7,500 families, winter clothing to about 1,400 children, and cash and winterization support to over 2,300 families, while offering mental health and psychosocial services to hundreds more. However, OCHA warned that needs continue to outpace assistance, with more than one million people requiring shelter support, and reported that another child recently died from hypothermia, bringing the total number of cold-related child deaths to 10. Separately, global protection partners raised alarm over high levels of death and injury among Palestinian men and boys in the West Bank, calling for stronger protection measures and the release of arbitrarily detained Palestinians.
