How the world reacts to Trump’s national address on Iran, possible NATO withdrawal

U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States is close to achieving its military objectives in Iran, but warned of intensified strikes over the next two to three weeks if the conflict continues.

Iran strongly rejected the remarks, with officials including Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei and military leaders asserting the country’s readiness to resist and warning of broader retaliation. They said the U.S. and Israel underestimate Iran’s military capabilities.

Trump’s speech drew sharp criticism from U.S. lawmakers such as Chris Murphy and Chuck Schumer, who questioned his strategy and messaging. Analysts also said the address lacked clarity.

China urged restraint, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stressing that military action cannot resolve the conflict and calling for dialogue.

Meanwhile, tensions have raised concerns among U.S. allies, particularly over Trump’s criticism of NATO and suggestions the U.S. could withdraw. European leaders emphasized unity and the need for diplomatic solutions, while multiple countries are exploring ways to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
