Tencent’s Honor of Kings has surpassed 139 million daily active users (DAU) in China and 260 million monthly active users (MAU) worldwide, setting a new global record for the highest MAU ever achieved by a game. The milestone was announced during the game’s 10th anniversary, along with news that Honor of Kings: World will launch in spring 2026 and Honor of Kings: Wanxiang Chess will begin large-scale testing in December 2025.
The game’s success highlights the growing international influence of Chinese-developed titles such as Genshin Impact, Black Myth: Wukong, and Whiteout Survival. As of mid-2025, Chinese companies occupy 38 of the world’s top 100 mobile game publisher spots.
China’s gaming globalization began in the 1990s and has evolved from one-time copyright buyouts to a model emphasizing deep localization. Between 2018 and 2024, overseas revenue from Chinese games rose from $9.59 billion to $18.56 billion, with their global revenue share increasing to 33.6 percent. Leading firms like Tencent now establish localized R&D centers and independent international brands, signaling a new stage of global expansion.
