Nearly two weeks after the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po, which killed 159 people and injured 79, the HKSAR government and mainland authorities have expanded large-scale relief efforts. Schools are being relocated, emergency subsidies and living allowances increased, and over 3,800 residents moved to temporary or transitional housing.
Mainland agencies have provided tens of thousands of relief supplies, while Guangdong enterprises have donated more than HK$600 million. The government’s support fund now totals HK$3.3 billion. Medical fees for affected residents will be waived through 2026, and students will receive special aid.
More than 2,000 social workers and clinical psychologists are delivering “one social worker per household” support, offering emotional care and practical assistance.
