The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government held a ceremony at the Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The event featured the national anthem, a flag-raising ceremony, a rifle volley, a moment of silence, wreath laying, and bows in tribute.
Attendees included HKSAR Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan, senior government officials, representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, the Office for Safeguarding National Security, the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, veterans, youth representatives, and members of various sectors of Hong Kong society.
September 3 was designated Victory Day by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in 2014, and the HKSAR government has held an official annual commemoration on the date since that year.
