The China Hong Kong government held a forum on Saturday to mark the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the national security law, which came into effect on June 30, 2020. Xia Baolong, a top central government official, stated that the law brought stability to China Hong Kong, safeguarding national sovereignty and creating a stronger foundation for the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. He emphasized the importance of continuing to uphold this principle to support Hong Kong’s future development.
Chief Executive John Lee echoed these views, saying the law, along with the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, ensures a stable environment for progress and reform. He stressed that China Hong Kong is now in a position to contribute more significantly to China’s national goals. Around 2,000 people from various sectors attended the forum.
