Rescue teams and volunteers in North Carolina are facing challenges as they search for people stranded or missing after Hurricane Helene, which has killed over 200 people across the Southeast. The death toll reached 215, making Helene the deadliest U.S. hurricane since Katrina in 2005. Most victims were in North Carolina, with others in South Carolina and Georgia. Crews are navigating through floodwaters, mudslides, and damaged roads in remote areas. President Biden has deployed 1,000 active-duty soldiers to support relief efforts, in addition to the National Guard already aiding in search and rescue operations.
