US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held talks with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the weekend. The meetings are part of Trump’s effort to find a way to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The US says it has presented ideas for a possible peace deal, but details have not been made public.
The talks were described as meaningful and encouraging by the US envoys, who also raised the possibility of future talks involving the US, Russia and Ukraine. European representatives from Britain, France and Germany also joined the meeting in Kyiv.
However, major disagreements remain. Ukraine wants strong security guarantees to prevent another Russian attack, while Putin continues to demand more territory in eastern Ukraine. Fighting has also continued despite a temporary pause on attacks against Moscow and Kyiv, making it unclear whether the latest diplomatic efforts will lead to a lasting peace deal. Credit : CGTN
