Hamas released 16 hostages to Israeli officials on the last day of a truce in the Gaza conflict. As part of a Qatar-mediated deal, 30 Palestinians (16 minors and 14 women) were released in exchange. Additionally, two Russians and four Thais were released outside the agreement, and 10 Israelis, including five dual citizens, were freed. The hostages were among 240 people captured by Hamas during an incident in southern Israel on October 7. Israel claims 1,200 people were killed in the incident, and its retaliation in Gaza reportedly resulted in over 15,000 Palestinian deaths.
