Hamas said Wednesday that it had reached an agreement with Israel on the group’s disarmament and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Hamas officials said a Palestinian technocratic committee would oversee the storage of the group’s weapons and that a formal statement on the agreement would be issued soon.
U.S. President Donald Trump also announced that an agreement had been reached on the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, saying it would pave the way for a new Palestinian administration and improved security arrangements.
According to Trump, the deal would be implemented in phases, with Israeli forces withdrawing as disarmament progresses, while an International Stabilization Force and a new Palestinian police force would take responsibility for Gaza’s security. Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye were credited with helping mediate the agreement.
