Hamas has accepted a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza put forward by Egypt and Qatar, raising hopes of a truce after nearly two years of war. The plan reportedly includes a 60-day pause and a phased release of Israeli hostages, though Israel has not yet responded. Mediators are pushing for guarantees and a path toward a lasting settlement.
The agreement comes amid worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where Egyptian officials described the situation as “beyond imagination.” Israel continues military operations while facing international criticism, and rights groups accuse it of deliberate starvation — charges it denies. Since Hamas’s October 2023 attack that killed over 1,200 in Israel, more than 62,000 Palestinians have been killed in the offensive, according to UN-backed figures.
