China has ranked first in the world for installed wind power capacity for 15 straight years, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said, responding to claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that China avoids using wind energy. Official data show China’s wind power capacity exceeded 600 million kilowatts by November 2025, accounting for about 40 percent of global wind generation. Wind and solar power made up a record 18 percent of China’s electricity generation in 2024, higher than the global average and surpassing the United States for the first time.
