The 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum opened Saturday in Yunnan, China, gathering hundreds of global scientists, university leaders and entrepreneurs under the theme “Science and AI Changing the World.” The event featured plenary and sub-forums on AI, life sciences, materials, and biodiversity, alongside the release of a technology outlook predicting transformative trends by 2049, including autonomous flying cars and widespread AI-driven creation.
Pan Jianwei received the Tengchong Science Award for achievements in quantum communication, while nine young scientists, including Xu Zhanbo for hydrogen-powered zero-carbon energy systems, were also recognized. Nobel laureate Konstantin Novoselov highlighted AI’s potential in advanced materials research. Participants emphasized cross-border collaboration with ASEAN and Lancang-Mekong countries, aiming to boost scientific innovation in the region.
