German Chancellor Friedrich Merz concluded his China visit on Thursday by highlighting cooperation in mobility and robotics. In Beijing, he test-drove a new Mercedes-Benz S-Class equipped with intelligent assisted driving, calling it a key future technology and praising collaboration between German manufacturers and Chinese tech firms. Mercedes-Benz said its China-based R&D team plays an increasingly important role in its global network.
Merz then traveled to Hangzhou, where he visited Unitree Robotics and observed humanoid robots in action. Founder Wang Xingxing said the visit reflects growing global interest in China’s robotics sector and expressed hopes for deeper international cooperation. Merz also toured Siemens High Voltage Circuit Breaker Co. Ltd. to learn about German business operations in China.
Accompanied by executives from around 30 major German firms, Merz witnessed the signing of more than ten commercial agreements. He said he was leaving China with strong impressions, noting that both countries share solid cooperation while facing common challenges.
