Geminid meteor shower to illuminate mid-December sky

The Geminid meteor shower, one of the Northern Hemisphere’s most prominent annual displays, is peaking this weekend and offers excellent viewing conditions. Along with the Quadrantids and Perseids, it is known for its strong and steady activity, with peak rates reaching up to 150 meteors per hour.

Unlike most meteor showers, the Geminids originate from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon. Earth passes through debris from its orbit each year around December 14. Observers are advised to watch from dark, open areas and dress warmly. Skywatchers can next look forward to the Quadrantids, peaking in early January 2026.
