Three years after the Hamas attack on Israel, fighting in Gaza has largely slowed under a fragile ceasefire, but major issues remain unresolved. Israel wants Hamas to disarm and give up military control, while Hamas demands a full Israeli withdrawal before discussing its weapons.
A US-backed plan calls for a phased Israeli withdrawal, Hamas disarmament, an international stabilization force and a Palestinian administration. However, disagreements over security, governance and reconstruction have delayed progress. Gaza also continues to face a serious humanitarian crisis, with large areas restricted and millions affected by displacement and damaged infrastructure.
Despite repeated mediation by the US, Egypt and Qatar, there is still no agreement on what Gaza will look like after the war.
