The wildfire death toll in Maui has increased to 67 from the previous count of 55. Firefighters are working to control flare-ups and contain fires in different areas of the island. Additional firefighting personnel and resources, including a search-and-rescue team, have been deployed. Thousands of visitors have left the island, and emergency shelters are open for residents. The governor called it one of Hawaii’s worst natural disasters, with the historic town of Lahaina severely affected, likely leading to the destruction of over a thousand buildings.
