Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), has been banned from all football-related activities for three years by FIFA. This decision comes after Rubiales was found to have breached FIFA’s disciplinary code by engaging in inappropriate behavior, including kissing a player on the lips and other misconduct during a Women’s World Cup final. Rubiales’ actions led to widespread calls for his resignation, protests from players, and a criminal complaint filed against him. He eventually resigned on September 10. Rubiales has the option to request a motivated decision within ten days, and the decision is subject to possible appeal. Spanish prosecutors have charged Rubiales with sexual assault and coercion. The RFEF has pledged to make broader structural changes to address the standoff between the organization and the players.
