Fast-moving wildfire near Nevada-California border injures 6, forces 42,000 to evacuate

A fast-moving wildfire known as the Hawk Fire has forced the evacuation of 42,000 residents near Reno, Nevada, after rapidly expanding to over 53 square kilometers since starting on Saturday. Completely uncontained as of Sunday, the blaze has injured six people—including three civilians and three first responders—destroyed several structures, and left about 10,000 customers without power in Washoe County. Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency for the county, urging residents to stay vigilant as extreme winds drive the aggressive fire behavior and place an additional 45,000 people under evacuation warnings.
