On Tuesday, heavy Israeli shelling in Gaza City and nearby towns killed at least 34 Palestinians overnight, with strikes also hitting Nasser Hospital in the south, where 20 people including journalists died. UN officials condemned the attacks and called for an immediate ceasefire.
In Israel, about 200,000 people joined a “National Day of Struggle,” blocking roads and demanding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secure a truce to free hostages. Qatar said Hamas has already accepted a proposal close to Israel’s terms, but Israel has yet to respond.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump will chair a White House meeting on Gaza, with his envoy saying Washington expects the conflict to be resolved by the end of the year. The war, sparked by Hamas’ October 2023 attack, has killed over 62,000 Palestinians and displaced nearly all of Gaza’s population.
