Over the past week, extreme heat has swept across Europe, breaking national temperature records in at least ten countries. Red alerts for dangerous temperatures have been issued in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina as the heatwave continues to intensify. Scientists from the World Weather Attribution group say this event is the most severe heatwave ever recorded in Europe and would have been “virtually impossible” in June without the influence of climate change.
