The European Commission has proposed doubling EU funds for Greenland and other overseas territories under its 2028–2034 budget plans. Greenland would receive 530 million euros ($618 million), more than twice its current allocation, while nearly one billion euros would be distributed to 13 EU-linked overseas countries and territories, including Aruba and French Polynesia.
The commission described the territories as “of high geopolitical and strategic importance,” serving as critical outposts for the EU. The proposal comes amid ongoing U.S. interest in Greenland, though both Denmark and Greenland maintain that the island is not for sale and will decide its own future. The budget must still be approved by EU member states and lawmakers.
