The European Commission announced it will review whether Apple’s iPadOS complies with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). Apple must allow iPadOS users to set default web browsers, access alternative app stores, and connect accessory devices like headphones. Apple submitted a 12-page report on November 1 detailing its compliance efforts and reaffirming its commitment to follow the law. The Commission will assess these measures and could enforce penalties if Apple’s solutions don’t meet the DMA’s standards. Enacted in 2022, the DMA targets large tech companies, known as “gatekeepers,” and non-compliance could lead to fines up to 20% of global revenue for repeated violations.
