European Union leaders have warned they must stay alert as conflicts in the Middle East could lead to new migration pressures in Europe. At a recent summit, leaders said that although there are no major migrant flows yet, they are preparing by strengthening border control and using diplomatic and financial tools. Ursula von der Leyen and other leaders also called for calm and respect for international law in the Middle East. The EU plans to boost its maritime security missions to protect key regions. Remembering the 2015 migration crisis, when over one million migrants entered Europe, the bloc wants to avoid a similar situation. Meanwhile, UN chief Antonio Guterres urged countries involved to stop the conflict and focus on diplomacy.
