EU approves 13th sanctions package against Russia

EU ambassadors have tentatively agreed on a 13th package of sanctions against Russia in response to its actions against Ukraine. This package, considered one of the broadest approved by the EU, is set to undergo a written procedure and receive formal approval on February 24. The measures include further restrictions on Russia’s access to drones. Additionally, the EU has imposed an asset freeze and visa ban on North Korea’s defense minister, Kang Sun Nam, for supplying ballistic missiles to Moscow. Over the past two years, the EU has implemented unprecedented sanctions on Russia, blacklisting around 2,000 officials and entities. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement among the EU’s 27 countries.
