Epic Games’ popular video game Fortnite is currently unavailable on Apple’s iPhone devices in both the European Union and the United States. According to Epic, the game will remain inaccessible on iOS globally until Apple unblocks it. Apple claims it requested Epic to resubmit the app without the U.S. storefront to avoid affecting availability in other regions.
The dispute is part of a long-running legal battle since 2020, when Epic challenged Apple’s 30% commission on in-app purchases, citing antitrust concerns. On Friday, Epic asked a U.S. judge to hold Apple in contempt for blocking Fortnite’s return, accusing Apple of retaliating against Epic for exposing its alleged anti-competitive behavior.
Although Apple had previously banned Fortnite in 2020, it reinstated the game last year under EU pressure tied to the Digital Markets Act. Earlier this month, Epic also won a legal case against Apple.
