Elon Musk’s Neuralink implants reach seven recipients

Seven people have received Neuralink’s N1 brain implant, marking a major step in Elon Musk’s goal to enable thought-controlled technology. The implant, designed for those with ALS or spinal cord injuries, translates brain signals into digital commands. One recipient, paralyzed Noland Arbaugh, now browses the web and sends emails using only his mind.

The device uses thin threads implanted by a robotic arm, transmitting signals wirelessly. Though early results show 90% accuracy in tasks like cursor control, challenges remain in expanding functionality.

Neuralink faces stiff competition from firms like Synchron and Precision Neuroscience, which offer less invasive alternatives. Neuralink’s implant lacks FDA approval and is currently limited to clinical trials, raising safety and regulatory concerns.

Experts warn of ethical risks such as data ownership, access inequality, and the need for clear regulations. As Neuralink prepares for broader trials, public reaction is mixed—balancing excitement over its potential with concerns about the implications of human-tech integration.
