ECOWAS, a group of 15 West African countries, is considering a regional plan to combat plastic pollution, according to Bernard Yao Koffi, ECOWAS director for environment and natural resources. During a workshop supported by the World Bank, Koffi noted that while many member states have introduced national efforts to reduce plastic use, challenges remain in implementing them. ECOWAS aims to adopt a collective approach, focusing on public education, promoting alternatives to plastic, and encouraging recycling. Plastic pollution affects the environment and marine life, posing health risks to humans as well.
