Ebola death toll in DR Congo climbs to 196, authorities say

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has grown to 837 confirmed cases and 196 deaths, according to health authorities.
Officials reported 29 new cases and four additional deaths in the past 24 hours, showing that the virus is still spreading actively, mainly in the country’s eastern region.
Health experts warn that the outbreak could spread across borders because of frequent movement of people between DR Congo and neighboring countries such as Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan. In response, countries in the region have strengthened border screening, disease surveillance and emergency preparedness.
Despite these efforts, authorities say the outbreak remains difficult to control due to ongoing community transmission, limited healthcare resources in some areas and a fatality rate of about 23.4%.
