Delegates walk out in protest as Netanyahu defends Israel at UN

Several UN delegates walked out of the General Assembly hall on Thursday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his speech during the 81st session. Netanyahu defended Israel’s military actions in Gaza and other parts of the region, rejecting allegations of genocide and accusing critics of spreading false information. He also criticized countries that, in his view, had refused to support Israel.

Earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told world leaders that the Palestinian people’s existence was under threat. He accused Israel of causing widespread destruction, hunger and forced displacement in Gaza, while settlement expansion continued in the West Bank. Abbas called for stronger international efforts to preserve the two-state solution, opposed the displacement of Palestinians and criticized U.S. restrictions on Palestinian representatives. Outside the UN headquarters, hundreds of demonstrators protested Netanyahu’s appearance and expressed support for Palestinians.
