Cyclone Chido has caused severe devastation in northern Mozambique, with the death toll rising to 120, 868 injured, and over 680,000 affected, according to Mozambique’s disaster relief agency. Heavy rains, storms, and flooding have damaged over 150,000 homes, 250 schools, and 52 health facilities, disrupting the lives of nearly 110,000 students.
Two emergency shelters are housing 1,349 displaced people. The government emphasized the cyclone’s impact on education and health, calling for climate-resilient infrastructure planning. Cyclone Chido, which formed on December 5, struck Mozambique on December 15 after impacting Mayotte, leaving widespread destruction.
